Compliance training aims to educate learners on legislative, regulatory or policy requirements for their industry or specific job function.
The course will enable learners to understand the importance of
compliance to safety, health and environmental legal and other
requirements for a specific workplace and the importance of integrating
safety, health and environmental considerations into all routine
activities at the workplace. In addition learners will be able to
identify any deviations and workplace safety performance in the
workplace from health, safety and environmental requirements and be able
to ensure that the correct action is taken in situations where safety
health and environmental issues are not in accordance with requirements.
Upon completion of the course the learner will be able to use a
step by step approach to apply Root Cause Analysis, know what methods to
use at each step and avoid common pitfalls. The learner will be able to
set the objective for the intended RCA to be conducted, gather all
required information and determine the depth of investigation required.
The person credited with this unit standard is able to use gangway
signals by selecting the correct position and signal equipment
according to operational requirements. They are also able to conduct
continuous assessment of the lifting gear and evaluate the slinging
methods to ensure safe operating practices.
Learners wishing to acquire the competencies in this course will
be, individuals working at height where there is a risk of injury from a
fall. Learners will be involved in performing tasks at height. Learners
will be able to follow fall arrest principles to perform work at height
safely, under supervision of a qualified supervisor.
First Aid level 1 is the minimum required qualification for all
workplaces in South Africa (as per the Occupational Health and Safety
Act). The course equips candidates with the basic principles of
assessing an emergency situation, contacting the emergency services as
quickly as possible and while awaiting their arrival, candidates will be
able to perform basic skills required to sustain life.
The course is designed to equip the learner in applying safety,
health and environmental protection procedures, perform inspections and
describe the functions of the workplace health and safety
representative. The course will also enable students to perform an
investigation into workplace safety, health and environmental incidents.
